We were excited to welcome Brummie comedian Joe Lycett to our hospital recently for a top-secret visit.
Joe was in the hospital to surprise Leukaemia nurse Sally Spencer with the news she’d won a Sky Arts Hero Award, which aims to shine a light on the unsung heroes of the UK arts and culture community.
As well as being a nurse at our hospital for almost 25-years, Sally is also a much-valued member of the Ex Cathedra Singing Medicine group, which has been performing in our hospital, supported by our charity, for over 20 years. Singing Medicine provides diverse, age-appropriate, singing-play sessions for patients to help distract and calm them as they receive treatment.
Sally was speechless when Joe joined her for a surprise singing performance. Footage captured at the hospital was aired on Sky TV, as part of coverage of the Sky Arts Awards ceremony, in London, where she collected her award. Watch it below.
