In January 2020, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall visited our Children’s Hospital to unveil a unique stained-glass window installation, featuring some of Roald Dahl’s most iconic characters, specially designed by the world-famous children’s illustrator Sir Quentin Blake.

The £234,000 project was the brainchild of Felicity Dahl, wife of the late author, who often used to visit our Children’s Hospital as a child with her father, Professor Alphonsus d’Abreu, then Dean of the Medical Faculty.

The instantly recognisable characters have transformed the environment for hundreds of children and young people who visit our Children’s Hospital every day, providing distraction which impacts on their healing and overall sense of wellbeing.
