Mum to complete ‘Fun Family 5’ 5k in memory of her son

A bereaved mum from Kingstanding is saying thank you for her son’s hospital care by taking part in our charity’s first-ever 5km walk this July.

After hearing about our ‘Fun Family 5’ event, in association with The Big Sleuth, mother-of-two Laura Page was keen to get involved, in memory of her much-loved eldest son Jayden-James.

Diagnosed with meningitis at six-days-old – an inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord – Jayden-James sadly lost his battle with the disease at just 17-days-old.

To keep his legacy alive, Laura is joining the Fun Family 5 sponsored stroll in Sutton Park, alongside her fiancé James and best friends Sarah, Adam and Lisa, with the hope of raising £200 our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Laura, 25, said:

Fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity means such a lot to me. I’d like to say thank you to the incredibly ambitious and determined Intensive Care staff, who did an amazing job looking after my son during our one-week hospital stay.

Hopefully the money I raise, with the help of my fiancé and friends, will help to fund much-needed medical advances and make a huge difference to children treated at the children’s hospital in the future.

Fancy dress for Fun Family 5 is optional, but Laura and her fellow fundraisers will be donning tutus and rainbow wigs to add a bit of ‘fun’ into their fundraising.

Following their 5k, the generous group will be able to enjoy the bear-themed activities on offer at the event’s dedicated Activity Zone – including the reveal of an exclusive, top-secret Big Sleuth bear.
