Gifts from some of our generous supporters enabled us to purchase new state-of-the-art echo machines for our Children’s Hospital’s world-leading heart unit.

The machines use ultrasound technology to create and record a moving image of a patient’s heart. It is a non-invasive process which, unlike x-rays, does not use radiation.

The new machines replaced outdated equipment and now provide high resolution images and micro measurements of even the tiniest of hearts. This allows for pinpoint accuracy and enables our clinicians to create personalised surgical and treatment plans for babies and children. They also proved to be invaluable when examining and monitoring children presenting with the COVID-19 borne childhood disease, PIMS-TS.

In addition, having next generation echo technology has increased our capacity to support groundbreaking research studies and trials by monitoring the hearts of children with rare and undiagnosed medical conditions.
