Events Volunteer/Charity Ambassador

I have been volunteering for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity for over a year. My little boy Alfie was born with a heart defect and underwent life-saving surgery. Without the hospital Alfie wouldn’t be here. I owe the staff everything and I am more than happy to give my time to help such a wonderful organisation to raise funds. I feel very proud knowing that I am giving something back and making a difference for families going through similar experiences to ours.

Since becoming a volunteer I have helped out at lots of different events – often dressed as Bertie the Bear! I really enjoy making people smile, posing for photos and giving the occasional hug. I have cheered on our inspirational runners at the Birmingham Half Marathon, and applauded amazing fundraisers as they have abseiled down buildings. I’ve also represented the charity at fundraising events, collected donations and even given a couple of speeches.

I’d advise anyone considering volunteering for this fantastic charity to give it a go. It has helped to boost my confidence and made me think outside the box. I have found the staff from the Fundraising Team really friendly and supportive and I have genuinely been made to feel part of something very special.
